Cori Anika Bush, an American politician, registered nurse, pastor, and Black Lives Matter activist, was born on July 21, 1976, and currently serves as the United States Representative for Missouri’s 1st congressional district. The district encompasses the entire city of St. Louis as well as the majority of northern St. Louis County.

Bush, a member of the Democratic Party, defeated 10-term incumbent Lacy Clay in a historic primary election for the United States House of Representatives on August 4, 2020, moving to the November general election in a firmly Democratic congressional district.

Bush is the first African-American woman to represent Missouri in the United States House of Representatives. She previously ran for the district’s Democratic primary in 2018 in the 2016 U.S. Senate race in Missouri. Her first primary challenge to Clay was documented in the Netflix documentary Knock Down the House, which was released in 2019.
