Jayden Wade Doyle: Man accused of attempted sword murder

A man accused of cutting another man’s hand off with a samurai sword – leaving him fighting for life – could have his newly laid charge upgraded even further, a court has been told.

The major development in the case against Jayden Wade Doyle comes less than a day after Queensland police announced they had upgraded his charge of grievous bodily harm to attempted murder.

Mr Doyle, 25, was remanded in custody following the alleged violent incident in The Pines, near Millmerran, in the state’s Darling Downs on Sunday.

Police allege the victim, 56, suffered a “significant” injury to his hand – allegedly caused by a samurai sword – following a dispute at the address about 9.30pm.

Mr Doyle is further alleged to have fled the scene and was found at a service station on Gore Highway at Captains Mountain.

He has been charged with attempted murder, robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and going armed to cause fear.

The 56-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

On Wednesday, Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told it was “quite possible” Mr Doyle’s fresh charge of attempted murder would be upgraded following a discussion with the arresting officer.

A charge of grievous bodily harm against him was dropped by prosecutors.

Lawyer Alysha Jacobson, acting for Mr Doyle, said she was not seeking any further directions on the brief of evidence, which was ordered earlier this week.

“I would simply seek it be due on May 8,” she said.

Mr Doyle’s matter was adjourned until Thursday.
