Lolly Has Released New Empowering Single "Paper Rain"

Publish date: 2024-04-19

The ’00s sensation, Lolly, returned to music in 2018 and even managed to get her debut and sophomore albums on download and streaming sites, and she has now dropped an awesome new single, titled “Paper Rain”. She also accompanied the release with a studio recording performance music video. This follows-up her 2018 single and music video “Stay Young And Beautiful“.

Lolly, real name Anna Kumble, launched in 1999 with the song “Viva La Radio”. She toured with the likes of Steps and 5ive, covered the Toni Basil song “Mickey” – becoming her biggest hit to-date and reintroducing the song to 90s/00s kids. She went on to release the beautiful ballad “Big Boys Don’t Cry” as a double A-side single with a cover of Bobby Day’s “Rockin’ Robin” which was made famous by Michael Jackson. Most of these singles appear on her first album “My First Album” which hit number 21 on the UK Albums Chart. Her second album “Pick ‘n’ Mix” was a lot less successful but saw her move towards a more grown-up pop style. Two singles were released, the still-a-jam-today single “Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love)” and a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. All 5 singles charted within the UK Top 20 Singles Chart – which is something many artists just hope to achieve nowadays. After 18 years away from music, she returned in 2018 by getting her two albums on download and streaming services and then dropped “Stay Young And Beautiful“. 2019 saw her work on some new music, and now, in 2020, she’s ready to release more songs, starting with “Paper Rain”.

The song was written by Lolly, herself, and she went on to say on Twitter, “My daughter was having a tough time of it last year so I wrote this little song to simply show her how I will always try to protect her… – Let hurtful words wash over you like Paper Rain.”
